Start Juicin'!

Alright... so here we go. A chronicle following my journey through "Getting Juiced"... in other words: jumping on the juice fast bandwagon. What does this mean? It means I've bought a juicer (specifically, the Breville Juice Fountain Plus) and a ton of produce, and I'm going to be on a juice binge for the next 21 days (three weeks for the mathematically challenged).

The plan? Lose a ton of weight, kick caffeine for good, work on my food addiction (yes, it's a real problem), and save some money on buying new clothes by fitting into my old ones!

For starters, I'm a 28 year old man. A former athlete (by former, I mean 10 years ago) who still has the idea that he can get up off the couch and run a mile anytime he feels like it. That is, until the next day when my knee is swollen and throbbing. I haven't put myself through any type of significant exercise in well over 6 months, mainly because I'm so damn heavy that any time I put any type of athletic stress on my knee, it wants to explode.

How heavy? I'm 5'11", 250 lbs. There, I said it. I weigh 250 lbs. What SHOULD I weigh? According to doctors and the Body Mass Index (BMI), I should weigh about 170 lbs. That's 80 lbs of weight that they say I need to lose before I'm "healthy". Here's my problem with that... the last time I was 170 lbs, I was in 10th grade and I was a cross-country runner. I also looked sickly and had zero muscle mass. In great shape, I weigh between 185-195lbs. So, in the spirit of easing myself into this fantastic mess... I'd like to be 30lbs lighter (220lbs) by the time I finish my juice fast.

More to follow. Time to put in work.
