Preparations!

Here we are, a matter of days before the Great Juice Fast of 2011 and the prep has begun! Like I said yesterday, I bought the Breville Juice Fountain Plus and some produce. What produce? Lettuce, carrots, oranges, spinach, wheat grass, beets, celery, cucumbers, apples (red AND green), grapefruit, pineapple, and a bunch of other stuff. So the next step is to start playing with stuff. I asked around and got a few ideas on what to throw in first.

I ripped the box open, put the juicer together (super easy) and grabbed the first thing that sounded good: oranges and carrots. Then I remembered that I had read about the benefits of adding celery to your juice. Fine. I turn on the juicer and the first thing I notice is how quiet it is. I was expecting this deafening, blender-type machine. This thing is no louder than a hand-held vacuum. In go the oranges (peeled of course). The shards of orange pulp spray all over the inside of the clear plastic container and out flows some juice. Nice. Next go the carrots, shortly followed by the celery. Stir stir stir... taste. Not bad. Not bad at all. The juice is thick and flavorful, definitely not your every day, sugared up, store-bought juice. Looking for some more good ideas. If you've got any, shoot 'em my way. I'll be messing around with fruits and veggies for the next few days to get an idea of what I'll be drinking all day for the next 3 weeks.

The final piece to the puzzle? A 40oz Thermos, of course! Now I have it all: juicer, juice-containing foods, and a stay-cool-all-day vessel! Bada bing.
